Update - we are now NZ made with a new formulation

AC for Pets Has a New Formulation and New Dosing Instructions

AC for Pets is returning with a new formulation, a new production home and updated dosing instructions.

Our new production process produces a denser, higher-strength powder. This means that each unpacked, level scoop now provides a dose for 15 kg of body weight, rather than 10 kg as with our previous batches.

If you remember only one thing from this update, make it this: always follow the dosing instructions printed on your tub. Continue using any previous-formulation tub according to its original label. When you open a tub of the new formulation, use the new dosing instructions below.

New dosing at a glance

For the new formulation:

  • Give one unpacked, level scoop per 15 kg of body weight.
  • Animals weighing up to 7.5 kg can safely receive half a scoop.
  • If your animal's weight falls between two dosing points, round up to the next half scoop for added efficacy.

To measure an unpacked, level scoop, fill the scoop gently without pressing or compacting the powder, then level off the top. There are 30 level scoops in one tub.

Animal's body weight New daily dose
Up to 7.5 kg ½ unpacked, level scoop (225mg)
More than 7.5 kg to 15 kg 1 unpacked, level scoop (450mg)
More than 15 kg to 22.5 kg 1½ unpacked, level scoops
More than 22.5 kg to 30 kg 2 unpacked, level scoops
More than 30 kg to 37.5 kg 2½ unpacked, level scoops
More than 37.5 kg to 45 kg 3 unpacked, level scoops
More than 45 kg to 52.5 kg 3½ unpacked, level scoops
More than 52.5 kg to 60 kg 4 unpacked, level scoops

For animals over 60 kg, continue adding half a scoop for each additional 7.5 kg of body weight.

What about a 5 kg animal?

Under the previous formulation, many customers were accustomed to measuring a specific 5 kg dose. With the new formulation, the exact proportional amount for 5 kg would be one-third of a scoop.

We recognise that one-third of a scoop can be difficult to judge consistently. You may measure approximately one-third if you specifically want to maintain that dose, but our practical recommendation is to round up and give half a scoop.

AC for Pets™ has a wide safety margin, and the recommended dose is not a hard maximum. Animals under 7.5 kg can safely receive half a scoop, so there is no need to worry about the modest increase involved when rounding a 5 kg animal up to this amount.

Why has the formulation changed?

The change was driven by the way our new manufacturing process produces the hydrolysed casein. The New Zealand process has resulted in a powder that is both denser and higher in alpha-casozepine-containing hydrolysate per unit volume.

To create a product that can still be measured consistently with a scoop, the new formulation includes a measured amount of unhydrolysed casein as a dairy-based carrier or filler. This is the same milk protein from which our hydrolysed casein is produced. The formulation remains simple, natural, and entirely dairy-derived.

The new product is made in New Zealand using 100% New Zealand-derived dairy ingredients. CompaniCalm remains a 100% Australian-owned company.

Importantly, “higher strength” refers to the amount delivered by a given scoop volume. It does not mean you should continue using the old one-scoop-per-10-kg directions with the new product. The updated dose accounts for the increased strength.

Why did production move to New Zealand?

Our previous Australian factory closed at short notice. AC for Pets requires a highly specialised and unusual dairy-processing setup, and we were unable to find another Australian facility with the equipment and capability needed to manufacture it.

Moving production was not a simple preference or expansion decision. It was the only viable way for AC for Pets to continue. Without finding a suitable production partner in New Zealand, the product - and the business behind it - would no longer exist.

The move involved far more than transferring a recipe. We had to rebuild the manufacturing process at a new facility, work through export certification and Australian biosecurity requirements, coordinate international freight for a specialised dairy product, and complete the documentation required for the shipment to enter Australia.

After a long and difficult process, our first New Zealand-made batch has now arrived safely in Melbourne and is awaiting packaging (as of today).

How have we checked the new product?

Changing production sites meant that careful verification was essential. We have completed HPLC analysis of the new product to assess its alpha-casozepine content. This testing confirmed that alpha-casozepine is present at a high concentration and supports the potency of the updated formulation and dosing instructions.

We have also completed microbiological testing of the product. The results met our microbiological quality requirements, providing reassurance about the hygienic quality and safety of the new batch.

Together with our manufacturing and quality-control processes, these tests give us confidence in the consistency, potency and safety of the new formulation.

When will AC for Pets be available again?

At the time of this update, the new batch is in Melbourne and awaiting packaging. We expect AC for Pets™ to be back in stock within three weeks at the latest.

Preorders remain open, and all preordered tubs will be dispatched as soon as the new stock is ready. We also reserved some of the final tubs from our previous batch for customers with active subscriptions, so we expect subscription deliveries to remain unaffected by the temporary stock outage.

Thank you for helping us get here

This has been one of the most challenging periods in CompaniCalm's history. We know the stock interruption has been frustrating, and we are extremely grateful for the patience and support shown by our customers, veterinary professionals and trainers.

We are incredibly relieved to have secured the future of AC for Pets, and we are excited to begin sending out the first tubs of our new New Zealand-made formulation very soon.
